2K Hires Apex Legends Developer to Rescue Challenged Hero Shooter Project Ethos
2K Games has welcomed Ben Brinkman from the creators of Apex Legends to lead the studio crew at 31st Union, which is currently working on the forthcoming over-the-shoulder action-packed title known as Project Ethos.
Leadership Transition Follows Lukewarm Reception
Brinkman takes on the leadership position at 31st Union following the dismissal of former leader Michael Condrey, who was removed from his post due to the game's lackluster unveiling last autumn.
Recently, 2K president a key figure updated team members about this organizational change through an official communication, which highlighted that early feedback sessions had revealed the requirement for a more defined vision.
Ismailer noted that the team is now refining Project Ethos with a renewed focus, aiming to better meet gamer demands.
A Pattern of Strategic Acquisitions
This announcement mirrors a comparable step taken by the publisher in the summer, when they recruited an industry veteran from Blizzard to work on the BioShock development group.
Below is the complete message from Ismailer's memo:
Dear Team—
I understand you all just wrapped up your gathering - I hope you’re as enthusiastic as I am with the positive developments. Previously I shared you all a message, I mentioned the following: “I believe in this group. You all are some of the most driven and creative developers we have had the chance to work with - and we’re excited for that partnership to continue.”
Given your hard work and adaptability, especially over the last year, you repeatedly show that.
The player input from last fall’s the game demo was informative. It affirmed the appeal of a roguelike shooter but told us we still had improvements to make. It highlighted the need for a sharper brand.
It has been motivating to see how far you’ve come. You accepted the input to consideration and overhauled Project ETHOS with a revitalized vision - one that’s ready to deliver on its promise to our players.
Our confidence in Project ETHOS grows every day. To advance the remarkable development you’ve made, I’m excited to announce Ben Brinkman as the new Director of the team. Following a period of talks, he starts with us on next week.
Ben’s leadership and experience in the competitive gaming genre is considerable, having devoted the past decade and a half developing and managing some of the most popular series in gaming, including the acclaimed shooter, and more recently, the battle royale hit.
Please join me in greeting him in the coming days. We are all eager to continue observing the development of Project ETHOS in the months to come.
David
Experience of the New Leader
Brinkman presently holds the position of senior developer and production lead at Respawn Entertainment for Apex Legends. He previously worked at major gaming companies in diverse production roles on the Call of Duty games, and, before that, had assignments at 2K and Electronic Arts.
Game Information and Vision
The upcoming game was unveiled in last year together with a public demo. Then, 31st Union portrayed the title as a "no-cost, third-person perspective action-packed experience and an innovative advancement on the style."
"Build your perfect run—or die trying—in this 3rd-person action shooter! Customize your character in live gameplay to suit your personal playstyle," the game's pitch reads. "Face the competition with fresh skills, challenges, and challenges that evolve every round. Do you leave securely with your hard-earned loot? Or aim high, risk it all, and hope your squad can achieve the highest spot? The decision is up to you."
The game does not have an official debut schedule or consoles, but enthusiasts can look forward to more updates as creation advances.
